Leadership in the 21st Century
In April 2008 we held our third event in Punta del Este, jointly organised with our colleagues from DEG, FMO and KBC. Thanks
to their excellent contributions we were hosts to more than 150 participants, including over 40 companies from Argentina,
Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and a large number of financial institutions active in the region.
We firmly believe that these gatherings, with their good atmosphere and appropriate setting, enhance personal relations
between banks and Latin American and European companies. At the end of the day it is our capacity to form friendships with
people in other cultures which defines the success of tomorrow's businesses.
Reactions from attendees confirmed that this program had a balanced mix between what's useful and what's interesting. These
were the topic areas covered:
The evolution and importance of leadership, by Dr. Abraham Buunk, from The Netherlands
Leadership in organisations and teams, by Drs. Maarten Nijhoff Asser, from Boston USA
Leadership in family owned companies, by Dr. Imanol Belausteguigoitia Rius, from Mexico DF
Leadership in crisis situations, by Dr. Alvaro Vilaseca, from Uruguay
During this last presentation we had Mr. Gustavo Zerbino, one of the survivors of the Andes plane crash, come and
share his personal experience with us. He left behind an unforgettable testimony of survival and a positive message of
human loyalty and perseverance in the face of adversity.
The most senior colleagues of our co-sponsors were present at the event, thus making a clear statement of their commitment
and their business here in Latin America. We were grateful to them and to all of our clients for their response to the
conference. We hope to be able to welcome all of them again in a few years time!
